The first English translation of Tatian's Diatessaron, first published over a hundred years ago, is again available in an affordable paperback. Tatian's mid-second century work blended the four canonical Gospels into a harmonized narrative of the life of Christ. It was tremendously influential in the Syriac churches, to the extent that St. Ephrem the Syrian wrote a commentary on it in the fourth century. In modern times, interest in it has shifted to its importance as an example of a primitive stage in the development of textual criticism.
